A skyline ridden with derelict buildings, Sao Paulo now has one less with the Portuguese hoteliers Tivoli Resorts taking over this former eye sore near the Avenida Paulista and turning it into a luxury design achievement that gives the Fasano family a run for their money. Not the best location in the Jardins, its main detriment, this concrete high-rise has been recreated with a lower floor lobby surrounded in walls of glass overlooking a tropical urban garden.<br /> <br />The lobby is lined in exotic Brazilian wood floors with whimsical semi-circular club chairs and white sofas surrounded by black-paneled walls of glass and atrium ceiling under the canopy of full size shade trees. The reception is composed of matching white glass counters containing a youngish staff of check-in and concierge help. An outdoor pool deck, one of the only in the city, features a area with deep-orange oval pool area surrounded in loungers and evening cabana scene.<br /> <br />The hotel is home to Arola-Vintetres restaurant on the 23-floor decorated by Patrícia Anastassiadisa and presided over by 2-star Michelin chef Sergi Arola with recipes of indigenous flavors and Brazilian ingredients. <br />
The Room
A series of medium-size corridors lined in modern artwork leads to heavy room doors that open to bright and airy living spaces defined by skyline views of Sao Paulo behind black-paneled square windows that are the signature of this hotel property. Silk wallpaper in golden cream colors offsets freestanding beds with LCD TVs suspended on poles in the middle of the room. Headboards conceal small writing desks in rich mosaic tile work, with sliding doors to large bathroom with soaking tubs and rain showers. An in-house Elements Spa, by world-recognized Banyan Tree, is immediately one of the best in the city and offers in-room massage services and well as a destination spa with treatment rooms.
