Design Hotel
For the last decade, there's been a sort of hotel war in Sao Paulo. On one side of Rua Oscar Freire there's the Fasano, with its old world Italian glamour. On the other, there's Emiliano that's a more-modern design hotel that together define 5-star Brazilian hospitality. Now, that rivalry expands to Rio de Janeiro where Fasano rules unrivaled from their Philippe Starck-designed Ipanema property. Emiliano occupies a refurbished 50s high-rise clad in white, architectural aluminum shutters that invigorate Copacabana Beach that's has all but lost the hipper, chicer crowds in the last decade to Leblon and Ipanema. The hotel features a lively lobby lounge with coastal Italian eatery defined by teak woods, natural linen fabrics and neutral color palette. While the rooftop infinity pool doesn't compare to the Fasano, sadly, the preening scene with additional restaurant offers a tamer hotel experience complete with full-service Santapele Spa and fitness center.
The Room
The 62-room hotel is heavy on design with wood paneled corridors that lead to interior and sea-facing rooms. Stark white walls feature floor to ceiling windows and open-plan bathrooms of veining white marble. Creamy brown leathers and suede, black and white photography and bronze details include some of the best amenities of any Rio hotel with the service many expect of Emiliano.
