Luxury Design Hotel
A twenty-minute ride inland to the village of Es Capdella just west of Palma, Castell Son Claret is a sprawling country estate that dates back to the 13th Century and various incarnations as an aristocratic house seat, equestrian farm and working oil mill. Today, however, this landmark estate stands as a beacon of luxury following an ambitious refurbishment of the manor house, outlying cottages and stables all overseen by owners Christine and Klaus-Michael Kühne. Inside, a soothing aesthetic of creamy marble and limestone accent buttress ceilings meandering from room to room that house the in-house eatery Zaranda, the one-star Michelin eatery by chef Fernando Perez Arellano that relocated to the hotel with its own in-house bakery, as well as Castell Bar that mixes modern glamour with the quieter luxury of the overall property. Outside, transformative gardens are home to 150-year old olive trees framing a spectacular salt-water pool and series of outdoor spa pavilions.
The Room
A total of 38-room and suites are framed in an airy, serine palate of neutral hardwood floors, creamy walls accented in dark hardwood paneling and grand French doors that open to private balconies and furnished terraces. A sophisticated décor mixes rattan-accented pieces with more meticulous dining tables and three-person sofas detailed in linen. Bathrooms are well-sized and outfitted in travertine marble with double-basin sinks, rain showers and freestanding bathtubs in higher room categories. Views from all rooms are sublime, facing over the various edges of the property where reflection pools, manicured gardens and one of the prettiest swimming pools on the island jets into the silent horizon.
