You're not sure what to expect at the unmarked entrance of this uber-hip Cape Town nightspot. A door guard with earpiece inquires of your reservation or simply lets you through to the staircase that leads to the 25-seat drinking bar. Created by Australian Luke Whearty and partner Aki Nishkiura, the duo refine a concept started in Singapore that involves a mixology menu based on flavors and alcohol selection altogether omitted. As for the space, a cool underworld vibe prevails with industrial finished, edition-style lighting and choice of booth or bar seating. A bar menu of snacks includes house-marinated olives, sesame cucumber and spiced cauliflower and almonds. There’s also a serving of three West Coast rock lobster tails with wasabi aioli and lemon butter on select nights.
