Sadly, or conveniently, most of Ravello's restaurant or either located or affiliated with an adjoining hotel. Contrary to instincts, sometimes a hotel you wouldn't dream of staying in is home to an eatery you'd be foolish to overlook. Such is the case with Il Garden, located in a quirky albeit majestically located 3-star hotel Il Garden Hotel in the center village popular with package travelers and Italian retirees. A slanted ceiling in the main dining room is painted glossy white above caramel color terracotta floors and the type of distant Amalfi views that make Ravello so spectacular. During warmer months (the restaurant can close in winter, but opens for holidays) an outdoor staircase leads to a picturesque terrace large enough for small parties and intimate weddings set against one of the most memorable views you're likely to ever see in Italy or anywhere.
The Food
A selection of morning-caught fish and locally produced meats and produce is the sustenance for a miraculous food experience enjoyed by world celebrities, CEOs and even the late-Jackie Kennedy. A prix-fixe or occasional ala carte menu begins with an Amalfi-signature salad with bright tomatoes, fresh cheese and thinly sliced parma. First-course pastas include rich ragus and tomato sauces served over homemade linguine, penne and fettuccine. Main course is a mix of land and sea with a savory grilled calamari with shrimp and lemony rice or seasoned steak served grilled on a bed of potato gnocchi.
Last Word
Signature village dining room, in well-known 4-star hotel, is popular for local bridal dinners and international soirees.
