Sure....if you saw a photo of Calissa without knowing what it's all about, you would be forgiven for being unimpressed. It looks more like a beachside cafe than swank Hamptons restaurant worthy of going out of your way to eat in. The decor is simple with standard tables and chairs, however, this makes sense. For Calissa is all about recreating a Greek-style dining experience that is centered around food and communal eating. In fact, the arrangement of the tables encourages social dining and large parties enjoying copious amounts of incredible Greek cuisine.
The Food
Many of the dishes available at Calissa are made with traditional Greek and South Aegean ingredients including black eyed peas, savory louza, and fava. Make sure you try the dips including the Psaraosalata. Examples of the main courses include Lobster served with confit fennel, tomato, Aleppo pepper, and mint, Dry aged lamb with tzatziki, thyme, and rosemary or Montauk bass with dill, olive oil, and lemon.
Last Word
Calissa is a simply designed restaurant that encourages social eating with a menu of traditional Greek and South Aegean dishes.
